Changes in the employment contract ? 3 Evidence from a quasi - experiment
نویسنده
چکیده
11 Many authors have discussed an apparent shift to a new employment contract characterized 12 by less commitment between employer and employee, and closer ties between wages within the 13 enterprise and those in the external labor market. We study the issue of when people in the US 14 and Canada feel pay cuts are fair. In contrast to much previous discussion, we find no evidence 15 of increasing acceptance of pay cuts — a measure of whether external, not internal, labor markets 16 are considered fair. These results suggest that new organizational forms might do well to preserve 17 some features of the “old” employment contract. © 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. 18 JEL classification: A13; C81; J30; J50 19

This study examines how managers’ use of expectation management is affected by labor market mobility, measured with the enforceability of non-compete provisions in employment contracts. We find that managers in states with stricter non-compete enforcement are more likely to manage analyst expectations downward, consistent with labor market immobility exacerbating managers’ incentives to ensure ...
متن کاملThe use of flexible working contracts in West Germany: evidence from an establishment panel
This paper investigates under which conditions firms use fixed-term contracts, subcontracted and freelance work. Using a probit model which accounts for unobserved heterogeneity, we find that positive changes in expected or actual turnover are associated with a higher probability of employing atypical work, which suggests that these forms of employment are used as means of adjustment. Other imp...

The present study analyzes th...
